Today I was invited to a casual breakfast meeting with the other parents and teachers of my son’s little pre-school. Coffee and croissants at Primitivo, one of my favorite Abbot Kinney haunts, no less! I survived. Armed with my fancy shaker bottle filled with pure nutrition, I resisted the temptation of chocolate-filled pastries, buttery goodies and fresh brewed cups of joe.
The shaker bottle makes people curious and I’ve enjoyed explaining my cleanse to strangers. This outing was no exception. Other mamas were either impressed or horrified. One parent exclaimed, “I could never do that!”
Trust me, if I can do it anyone can.
I was still under kale’s spell. After declining all the temptations of the morning, my craving for warm greens begged to be satiated; I wasn’t about to deny myself one more thing. As I was driving down Rose Avenue, I made an impromptu pitstop at Cafe Gratitude, the holy grail of Venice Beach healthy dining. There was sure to be kale on this trendy vegan menu. Huzzah! I was able to order a side of my obsession, sautéed in all it’s glorious simplicity.
FYI: all kale is not created equal, not even the organic ones. This one could not hold a candle to my backyard kale. It was tough and flavorless. BLAH! I had a couple bites and saved it for later. Luckily I had splurged and ordered the house-made almond milk with turmeric; it was divine! Note to self: stick to the drinks at Cafe Gratitude.
This diary is supposed to be about cleansing, however the foodie in me has been writing all about the snacks I can or can’t have. I can’t help myself; I like food.
Now, let me tell you about the shake that is the anchor of this cleanse.
The company website declares: Purium’s Power Shake™ was created so that you can easily consume several superfoods all at once, thus saving you time and money.
Some of the awesome benefits:
- May help burn fat and build muscle
- Is a great natural detoxifier
- May increase energy, endurance, and strength
- Supports healthy blood glucose levels
- Can help curb cravings and appetite
- Contains ingredients rich in vitamins and nutrients to support total nutrition
This was the first shake of this type– herbalife, nutrisystem etc- that I have encountered that was so nutrient dense and at the same time lacked additives, fillers, and toxic ingredients such as: Soy Protein Isolate – Denatured GMO protein. Numerous artificial flavorings, particularly MSG, are added to soy protein isolate.
And the list goes on of all the icky ingredients in Herbalife, the so-called health drink…
Corn Bran – GMO
Sucralose – Artificial Sweetener
Soy Lecithin – Toxic GMO emulsifer
Canola Oil – GMO
Let’s compare Nutrisystem’s TOXIC weight loss shake ingredients to my whole food pure nutrition option. Just read and decide for yourself: Which would your body choose?
NUTRISYSTEM: Whey protein concentrate, sugar, fructose, natural flavor(includes milk, annatto and turmeric added for color), calcium phosphate, high olec sunflower oil, cellulose gum, maltodexterin, soy lecithin, salt, xanthan gum, sodium caseinate, potassium phosphate, sucralose, carrageenan, tocopherols added to protect flavor, vitamin a palmitate
PURIUM: Ingredients: Rice Bran Solubles, Organically Grown Activated Barley, Organic Carrot Juice Powder, Organic Spirulina, Organic Wheat Grass Juice Powder, Organic Oat Grass Juice Powder, Organic Alfalfa Leaf Juice Powder, Organic Raspberry Flavor, Organic Apple Flavor, Lo Han Guo (a plant).
The Purium Transformation is a NonGmo, vegan, organic whole food formula. Bingo!
For the record, I purchased my own cleanse products. I am giving my honest opinion about them. I believe this is an authentic product that happens to be in line with my Nitespa brand and my personal core values. I feel like I found the supplement that is right for me and I feel compelled to share the love.
You can probably find some good meal replacements at Whole Foods et al. but they don’t come with the support of a team of nutrition experts and a guide to transform your diet and lifestyle forever.
I wasn’t expecting to love these nutrients so much, but now my body craves them and I get excited to drink my shakes! Now, if those cravings for coffee and croissants truly continue to dwindle at the end of 10 days it will will be a triumph!
